FAIRIFIELD — The Athens Hornets came up short in the consolation title game of a tournament for a second straight week Saturday afternoon, losing 40-30 to Waco High in the annual Fairfield tournament.

The loss dropped first- year coach Tracy Carter’s Hornets to 5-6 on the year.

The Hornets are scheduled to be at home Tuesday against Malakoff. JV action begins at 5 p.m.

AHS advanced to the consolation title game with a 60-36 win over Mart.

Kadarrion Dora led a balanced scoring effort with 10 points. Randle Gamble had nine and Anthony Crayton and Johnathon Dora had eight each.

AHS led 22-8 after one quarter.

Against Waco, the Hornets scored just nine points in the second half.

Dora was the top scorer with nine points. Kerry Gamble had seven.

The JV Hornets won the Athens tournament to improve to 5-2.

AHS was a 52-45 winner over Palestine in the title game behind Desmond Bowie’s 14 points. Courtney Whitehead had 13.

The Hornet frosh lost 46-41 to Crandall in the title game.

Xavier Harris and Robert Morgan had 11 each for AHS.
