Cross Roads’ Dustin Cantrell picks up yardage Friday against Scurry-Rosser. The Bobcats dropped a 47-7 decision in their season opener at home.

CROSS ROADS — The Scurry-Rosser Wildcats had too much for the Cross Roads Bobcats in a football season opener Friday night, rolling to a 47-7 win.

Scurry-Rosser raced out to a 47-0 lead before the Bobcats finally got on the scoreboard with just under two minutes left in the game.

Dustin Cantrell did the scoring honors for Cross Roads. He scored on a 14-yard run with 1:43 to go in the game. Victor Waldo added the PAT.

Scurry-Rosser aided the Bobcats on their touchdown drive with an unsportsmanlike penalty, putting Cross Roads on the 20-yard line. After Cantrell ripped off a seven-yard gain, he then found his way into the end zone on the next play.

The game was a matchup of two teams posting 2-8 records a year ago.

Scurry-Rosser led 28-0 at halftime.

Coach Chancz Johnson’s Bobcats are scheduled to return to action next week against the Dawson Bulldogs. Game time in Dawson is 7:30 p.m.
