Mother nature played a determining factor in a one game playoff for the Athens Lady Hornets Friday in Grand Saline.
The Lady Hornets (18-7) are facing the Pittsburg Lady Pirates in the area round of the playoffs.
The two teams were in the top of the third inning with no outs when weather forced them to pack up and head home.
Athens coach Morgan Bryan said the series is scheduled to resume at 7 p.m. Saturday at Texas A&M-Commerce.
There is a possibility the game could be played at 3 p.m. as Bryan is waiting to hear back from Texas A&M-Commerce for availability of the field.
The series is supposed to be finished by Saturday night due to University Interscholastic League rules.
The winner of the game will face North Lamar, who swept Brownsboro in their playoff series.
Athens reached the playoff series after sweeping Rains by scores of 10-1 and 8-0 last week at Grand Saline.
On Friday, the Lady Hornets had runners on first and second with no outs in the bottom of the first inning.
Haley Durden opened the game with a four pitch walk. Freshman Tyler Greene smacked a single but both runners were left stranded in the inning.
Athens pitcher Kristin House has given up one hit with four strikeouts in two innings of work.
