The Athens Lady Hornets and Bullard Panthers resumed their area series on Friday night for Game 2 at Emory-Rains High School.
Bullard’s high-powered offense carried them again and Ariel Matula pitched a no-hitter against Athens to pick up the 12-1 win in five innings, ending the Lady Hornets’ season as the Panthers clinched the area championship.
The Panthers led 5-0 after the top of the first inning, with the first three runs scoring on a three-run RBI triple.
They extended their lead to 9-0 in the top of the second, with all four runs coming on bases-loaded walks with Kenzie Hair pitching.
Bullard's lead was 11-0 in the top of the third as Emma Lambert scored Gabby Nichols and a runner with a two-run RBI single.
Nichols brought home the Panthers' last run when she hit an RBI triple to left field in the top of the fourth and they led 12-0.
Athens scored their only run of the game in the bottom of the fourth and trailed 12-1, which was the final score, as Abby Garcia reached first base on an error and Cae Cae Sneed scored.
Brooklynn Cook took the loss for Athens as she pitched three relief innings with five runs on four hits along with three walks.
Hair started with two innings and she surrendered seven runs on one hit with nine walks and one strikeout.
Bullard outscored Athens 25-2 and held the Lady Hornets to four hits in two games.
The Lady Hornets wrap up the 2019 season at 16-18 as bi-district champions.
