One month since their season wrapped up in the area round, eight Athens Lady Hornets were honored with All-District awards for their contributions in the 2019 campaign.

In 2019, the Lady Hornets finished the year with a record of 16-18 as both bi-district champions and area finalists.

After Athens finished the month of March on a three-game losing streak, they  picked up steam at the right time as they played well down the stretch and went 4-2 in April to clinch a playoff spot.

Their victories in April included two wins against Mabank and wins against Wills Point and Brownsboro.

After being shutout in Game 1 against Caddo Mills in bi-district, 6-0, the Lady Hornets bounced back to win two in a row and clinch the bi-district championship over the Foxes in Royce City.

They then traveled to Emory-Rains High School for a big test against the Bullard Panthers for the area round.

However, the Panthers proved to be too much with their offensive power for the Lady Hornets as Bullard swept the series, 13-1 and 12-1, ending Athens’ season.
