BULLARD — It’s back to Austin for the Cross Roads High School girls golf team.

The Lady Bobcats successfully defended their Region III-AA golf championship Tuesday at Peach Tree Golf Club, running away with a 46-stroke victory.

Cross Roads carded a 735 over the two days of competition to earn a second straight regional title and punch a ticket to the state tournament May 8-9.

Coach David Stout’s squad opened with a 366 and shot 369 in the final round. Union Grove was second at 781 and Warren third at 804.

Malakoff finished eighth at 840.

Melody Musick had back-to-back rounds of 87 for a 174 to lead the Lady Bobcats. She finished fifth in medalist competition.

Whitney Houston, who had Cross Roads’ best final round with an 85, carded a 179. She was followed by Kassity Ivey with a 180, Maggie Lewis with a 202 and Katie Frentress with a 222.

Ivey fashioned an 86 in the opening round for the Lady Bobcats’ top score Monday.

Competing for Malakoff were Kassie Hale (192), Hannah Ricks (199), Britney Wolfen (214), and Brianna Clement (235).

LaPoynor boys advance

NACOGDOCHES — The La Poynor boys finished second in the Region III/IV-A Tournament to again qualify for state.

LaPoynor hot a 703 to finish behind Riesel’s 692.
