The Athens Hornets went 4-0 this weekend at the Grand Saline/Rains Tournment with wins against Troup, White Oak, Winnsboro and Grand Saline.
In the bottom of the second inning, Kobe Grimes scored on a single to center field by TJ Rockmore. Triston Fischer then came home on a groundout by Rockmore for the 2-0 lead.
In the fifth, Kobe Kale scored and made it 3-0 on a sacrifice by Trent Harris, who reached on an error by the third baseman. It was 4-0 after Harris scored on a passed ball.
Grant Echols scored the last run of the game on a throwing error by the catcher as Athens won, 5-0.
Juan Garcia went six innings on the mound and struck out nine while allowing one walk and five hits.
In the bottom of the first inning, Grimes singled to left field to score Nathan Sims for the 1-0 lead.
In the second, Fischer scored on a wild pitch to lead 2-0. Kale scored on an RBI single by Chris Garcia, while Sims scored on the same play thanks to an error as the Hornets built the lead to 4-0. Garcia scored on a wild pitch to lead 5-0 and Sims stole home on a double steal to lead 7-0.
The last run came from Garcia as he came home on a sacrifice fly from Grimes for the 8-0 win.
Grimes allowed one hit in five innings while striking out five.
In the bottom of the first inning, Sims scored on a wild pitch and Athens led 1-0.
In the third, Sims scored on an triple to left field by Kale for the 2-0 lead. Kale would come home on a wild pitch for the 3-0 lead. Grimes scored for the 4-0 lead on Rockmore's sacrifice bunt. Ty Rayburn flied out to right field and Echols scored for the 5-0 lead.
In the fourth, Sims scored on a single to left field by Garcia for the 6-0 lead. Kale scored himself and Garcia on a two-run home run to left field for the 8-0 lead. Finally, Grimes and Juan Garcia came home as Rayburn drove a two-run double to left for the 10-0 lead.
The Hornets added one more run and won, 11-0.
Kale went four innings and gave up three hits while striking out three.

In the top of the second, Rockmore stole third base and then home plate on a throwing error from the catcher to tie the game at 1-1.
In the top of the third, Garcia scored on a wild pitch for Athens to take the 2-1 lead. Kale scored on a sacrifice bunt by Grimes for the 3-1 lead. It was 4-1 Athens after Rockmore scored on an RBI single to left field from Rayburn.
The Indians answered on a bases-loaded walk and sent home two runners on an RBI single to center field to tie it at 4-4 in the bottom of the third.
The Hornets took the 6-4 lead in the top of the fourth as Chris Garcia and Kale scored on a two-run RBI single to center field by Echols and won by that score.
Michael Alvarado gave up four runs on four hits with five strikeouts and three walks in 2 2/3 innings. Ty Rayburn relieved with 2 1/3 perfect innings.
