Athens High School has announced some changes to the softball schedule for the upcoming week.

Due to the Henderson County Livestock Show and the regional golf tournament, the next two games will have different start times.

On Friday, the Lady Hornets varsity will start at 5 p.m. against the Van Lady Vandals. Senior night festivities will begin at 4:30 p.m.

The junior varsity will play after the varsity around 7 p.m.

Next Tuesday, the contest against Mabank will begin at 7:30 p.m. with junior varsity starting at 5:30 p.m.

Samantha Smith is competing as a medalist in the Region II golf tournament at Tanglewood Country Club in Pottsboro on Monday and Tuesday.

BHS seniors named academic all-state

The Brownsboro Bears had two athletes named to the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches academic all-state team and the Texas High School Coaches Association team recently.

Seniors Jared Bragdon and Quentin McKenzie were named to the team.

Teammate Will Bailey was named to the first team all-region list by the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches.

Another honor for the Bears was given to coach Tobin Reid as he was named the Class 3A, Region II Coach of the Year by the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches.

East Texas Hoops looking for teams

The East Texas Hoops organization has announced its latest play dates and tournaments for local programs and other local basketball teams.

The list is located below:

April 12 — Mt. Vernon Playday 3/4 thru varsity boys and girls, 6 p.m.

April 14 — Mt. Vernon, Mt. Pleasant spring league, 5-to-6 thru varsity.
