Portland, Ore. currently features the lowest price on gasoline in the country — less than $2 per gallon.

I recently read a story in Bicycling magazine listing the top 21 cities in the country for, what else, riding bikes.

Guess whose No. 1? Portland, Ore.

Bikes aren’t just toys. Portland has opened up streets and paths for bike commuting, and there’s even a group that will help you move — as in your household goods — by bike.

The result is less congestion, less pollution, and a healthier community.

Maybe the rest of the country could learn from Portland’s example.
