A pedestrian died after being hit by a sedan around 3:25 a.m. Saturday, July 13, on State Route 198. According to a press release, Gun Barrel City Police Department received numerous calls reporting a suspicious person in the 600 block of South Gun Barrel Lane.
While officers were en route to investigate, dispatch received notification of a possible vehicle collision involving a pedestrian.
Upon arrival, officers determined a pedestrian had been struck by a northbound vehicle, causing fatal injuries.
The vehicle involved, a 2012 Chrysler 200, driven by Steven Dunning of Mabank, was northbound on State Route 198 when he encountered a person sitting on the road on the left side of the lane.
Dunning was unable to avoid the pedestrian, identified as Hallet Edward Johnson, age 64, of Gun Barrel City. As a result of the collision, Johnson sustained fatal injuries and Dunning was uninjured.
Gun Barrel City Police Department is investigating the collision.
