Two passengers were killed and a Mabank woman was injured in a one-vehicle wreck near Mabank on Sunday afternoon, Department of Public Safety reports said.

The deceased were 65-year-old Thomas Eugene Bickerstaff Jr..and William Fredrick Sherrard, 39. Both were pronounced at the scene by Van Zandt County Justice of the Peace Wade McMillan and taken to Eubanks Funeral Home in Mabank.

DPS Sgt. Jean Dark reported that troopers responded to the crash on State Highway 198 in Van Zandt County, six miles north of Mabank city limits. Preliminary crash investigation revealed that Susan Sherrard, 66, of Mabank driving a 2000 Buick LeSabre south on SH-198 when the vehicle went off the roadway to the right. The vehicle hit several trees, then traveled back to the left, across the road and into the ditch.

Sherrard was taken to Presbyterian Hospital – Kaufman, where she was reported in stable condition. Bickerstaff was in the front passenger seat while William Sherrard was seated in the back.

Another backseat passenger, Lisa May Adair, 39, of Mabank was taken to Christus Mother Francis Hospital – Tyler in serious condition.

The wreck is under investigation.
