The Henderson County Sheriff’s Department has obtained an arrest warrant in connection with the shooting death of 21-year-old Johnny Lee Brown of Trinidad.

Brown’s body was found in the bedroom of a residence at 1201 Leagueline Road Wednesday.

Henderson County Sheriff Ray Nutt said the suspect is Pete Armando Ayala, 21, also of Trinidad. Nutt said as of Friday afternoon Ayala was not in custody.

Henderson County Sheriff’s Department reports state dispatch received a 9-1-1 call at 7:09 p.m. reporting a gunshot victim at a residence there. Investigators Michael Teal and Caresa Ballard arrived at the scene to assist the Trinidad Police Department with the case. Brown’s body was found in the master bedroom of the residence.

Sheriff’s department personnel, Henderson County District Attorney’s Office Investigator Balde Quintanilla and Malakoff Police combed the Trinidad area, but could not locate the suspect.

Henderson County Pct. 5 Justice of the Peace Pct. 5. Tommy Barnett pronounced the victim dead and ordered the body sent to the Southwest Medical Center in Dallas for an autopsy.

Investigators were able to collect enough information to identify Ayala as a suspect, Sheriff’s Department reports said.

Teal is heading the investigation for the sheriff’s department with the assistance of Texas Ranger Trace McDonald.
