The Eustace Police Department is investigating a Saturday night wreck in that killed a Trindad woman and hospitalized her husband.

Pct. 2 Justice of the Peace Dale Blaylock said Genelle G. Armstrong was transported by ambulance to East Texas Medical Center in Gun Barrel City where she expired. Saturday was Armstrong’s 70th birthday. Her husband was flown to an area hospital for treatment. Details about his condition were unavailable Monday.

According to information from the Henderson County Sheriff’s Department, at 10:09 p.m. Saturday, dispatch recieved a 9-1-1 call reporting a wreck at the intersection of U.S. Highway 175 and Farm to Market Road 316.

Police reports said the Armstrongs were travelling south on FM 316 when the vehicle did not stop at the intersection and slammed into a concrete barrier. The cause of the accident was not immediately known.

Athorities were awaiting a medical report on the driver to determine if there might have been a medical problem that contributed to the wreck, Blaylock said.

The Payne Springs Police Department assisted the Eustace PD in working the wreck scene.
