The holidays have been pretty quiet for the Athens Police Department, but there have been a scattering of burglary reports to keep them busy.
On Wednesday, APD received a call concerning an auto break-in. Sgt. William E. Smith was dispatched to the 700 block of East Tyler Street where a 1993 Chevrolet Suburban had been burglarized.
The thief took the vehicle’s touch screen stereo system. The complainant estimated the loss at about $500.
Tuesday, a call from the 100 block of Aaron Street reported the theft of items from a vehicle.
The complainant told Sgt. Brett Morman that a purse was removed from the car. Valuables inside the purse included a Nikon camera, credit cards and personal identification.
On Christmas Eve, a side window was knocked out of a vehicle in the 700 block of West College Street. The owner was not certain if anything had been taken, but damage to the window resulted in a criminal mischief report.
On Dec. 23, Walmart officials stopped a person who was allegedly stealing merchandise. Police arrested a 50-year-old woman for theft ($50 to $500).
