The Gun Barrel City and Mabank police departments have teamed up to provide a memorable Christmas for area teenagers.

“Historically, toy and clothes drives focused on the younger children in need and have not provided specifically for older children and teens,” Gun Barrel City police Chief Jeff Arnswald said in a press release.

He is asking for help in providing gifts in the department's first Team Up 4 Teens program.

“Families that struggle financially find it difficult to provide extra funds during the holidays to provide meaningful gifts and support for their teens,” the press release shows. “We know it can be difficult to find a little extra to give, but reaching out to a needy teen can make all the difference during the holidays. Our program will exercise extreme discretion, and any proceeds will be dispersed with the assistance of our local school counselors.”

Anyone interested in supporting the Team Up 4 Teens program can provide a donation at the Gun Barrel City Police Department or Mabank Police Department, or call 903-887-7151.

The deadline for donations is Dec. 11.

Gun Barrel City Toys for Tots will provide gifts for younger children. Presents for GBC Toys for Tots can be dropped off at Gun Barrel City Hall on Saturday, between 10 a.m. and noon.

Santa and his helpers will be at city hall to help receive gifts.
