Athens Masonic Lodge 165 is hosting Carter BloodCare for a blood drive at Brookshire's on April 13.

The blood collected will go to the Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children in Dallas.

“Texas Scottish Rite Hospital is a world-renowned leader in the treatment of pediatric orthopedic conditions, sports injuries and fractures, as well as certain related arthritic and neurological disorders and learning disorders, such as dyslexia,” according to a press release.

The blood drive is scheduled for 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Brookshire's parking lot at 807 E. Tyler St. The Masons will cook slider hamburgers for those who try to give blood.

“Anyone else can purchase a slider for $2 or two sliders, chips and a drink for $5,” the press release shows. “The blood drive is sponsored by El Presidente Restaurant of Brownsboro.  Anyone who attempts to give blood will have their name put in the hat for the drawing. The prizes are a $25 gift certificate for El Presidente Restaurant.”

This is the 5th year for the Athens Masonic Lodge to host a blood drive for Texas Scottish Rite Hospital. Last year, 31 pints were collected.

"It is such a pleasure for us to be able to help Carter BloodCare and Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children,” said Daniel Hunt, blood drive chairman for the Athens Masonic Lodge, in the press release. “We appreciate El Presidente Restaurant and Brookshire’s helping us again this year."
