A 54-year-old man, riding a bicycle on State Highway 31, escaped serious injury Wednesday, when he was clipped by a passing car.
Lynnwood Paul Spangler of Alvarado was flown by EMS Air 1 to East Texas Medical Center in Tyler. He was examined, treated and released.
Texas Department of Public Safety Trooper James Martin said Spangler was riding a Miyata 1000 Touring Bike eastbound on State Highway 31, near Staway Ranch when a Toyota Corolla driven by 30-year-old Tara Nicole Whitley of Murchison approached heading the same direction.
The right outside mirror of the Toyota struck Spangler, who was near the white fog line at the edge of the roadway. After impact, both the vehicle and bicycle left the pavement on the south side.
Whitley was not injured in the wreck. Spanger suffered scrapes and bruises.
Martin was assisted at the accident scene by Trooper Joe Gomez and Henderson County Sheriff’s Office Dep. Richard Miller.
