A man who allegedly fired shots into two residences was arrested Thursday morning on a firearms charge, Athens Police Department reports said.
Reports indicate that Steven Duane Roberts, 38, had been in an argument with his girlfriend, and may have thought she was inside the residences.
He was charged with unlawful possession of a firearm, and booked into the Henderson County Jail.
Roberts was released Thursday afternoon, after posting $20,000 bond.
APD received a call at about 7:35 a.m., from a man who said he heard two gunshots from a residence in the 500 block of Massey Street.
APD Cpl. Jason Bosher and Cpl. Gregory Hill were dispatched to the residence to investigate. Officers were unable to locate the source of the gunshots.
Shortly after 8 a.m., dispatch received a second call, stating that a white car was at the residence where the shots had been fired.
Hill returned to the location, where he found Roberts with a gun in his pocket, and arrested him on the firearms charge. Officers found two bullet holes in a window on the west side of the residence.
Shortly after noon, APD received a call from a resident on 6th Street, who said Roberts had fired at his residence that morning, and a bullet had struck a dresser. Hill took a report for deadly conduct, with Roberts named as a suspect.
As of Friday afternoon, no charge had been filed concerning the deadly conduct complaint. The incidents remain under investigation.
