First Baptist Church of Malakoff is tackling a different kind of Easter drama.
“Loved with a cross” will be presented on April 2 and April 3 at 7 p.m., and on Easter Sunday at 11 a.m.
Admission is free and childcare will be provided. FBC Malakoff is located on 220 West Mitcham. For more information call 903-489-0228 or visit www.fbcmalakoff.com.
“There are so many powerful Easter dramas, but the moment I listened to the challenging music score of “Loved with a cross,” I knew our choir would appreciate and meet it's demands. They have not disappointed me,” Minister of Music and Education at First Baptist Church of Malakoff Eric Beechem said.
According to Beechem, there are multiple unique qualities to the drama.
“The music is written like a Hollywood film score, which makes it enjoyable to the audience. The story is told from the viewpoint of Thomas, the doubting disciple. The audience will be challenged throughout the drama. As in life, they will need to be searching for Jesus,” he said. “Jesus is everywhere in the drama, yet never seen. It's interesting to me that Jesus is truly the “star” of this production, yet not a “character.”
“This drama is truly unlike any other, and we are blessed to be able to offer it to our community,” Beechem said.
The sanctuary at FBC Malakoff has been totally transformed for the musical.
The entire choir loft has been replaced with a complete set for the play, including a dramatic cross placed high above the baptistery.
The cast includes close to 50 choir members, actors and a full audio and tech team.
“Our church is definitely blessed with a multitude of talent,” Beechem said. “I am thankful to be with a group of people who use their gifts for His glory.”
