Tales of tails will fill the library in Athens on Tuesday.

The Henderson County Clint W. Murchison Memorial Library will play host to local author Sharron Ellsberry Aug. 7 at 10 a.m.

Library officials said Ellsberry will read and sing with children.

Ellsberry said she teaches the children about the stories, morals, themes and character traits.

“I tell the children there are hidden treasures that I have put in the book, those treasures are character elements.”

As a child, Ellsberry said her favorite book was “Little Mailman of Bayberry Lane” and now she realizes the theme is very similar to the one she used in her first book “The Spaniel family Goes to the State Fair.”

“I didn’t know it when I wrote the book, but both have similar morals,” Ellsberry said. In “The Spaniel family Goes to the State Fair,” the moral is when you share with others, it brings joy, Ellsberry said. And the moral of “The Spaniel Family’s Pen Pal Adventure” is in order to have friends, you have to be a friend, she said.

Ellsberry said her stories are simple. In the first book, the three spaniels go to the State Fair of Texas.

In the second book, the dogs make friends with a pen pal in Brownsville, who is a Chihuahua named Chico. Chico has no other friends and the Spaniels promise to be his friend. The Spaniels and Chico meet by accident in Austin, and learn to depend on each other.

The library is located at 121 S Prairieville in Athens.
