Following the Athens Lighted Christmas Parade on Dec. 8, the Texan Theater will host a “Christmas Carol Singalong Night” featuring Strangebreed Worship.

“The evening will include a 90-minute performance of Christmas carols, classics and tunes that the audience will love,” according to a press release. “This … is a family-friendly event for all ages.

“There is no entry fee required. However, a donation of three canned goods is required to attend. Music will begin at 8 p.m. There will be no alcohol served or sold and no BYOB.”

All ages are invited. Local vendor Callaway’s Coffee will offer coffee, hot chocolate and sweet treats for purchase.

The parade starts at 6:30, followed by the event at the Texan at 8.

On the day of the parade, all registered entries must check in at the city booth in the grass on the corner of the Trinity Valley Community College parking lot and Lakeside Dr. (Valle Vista). All entries will enter into the TVCC parking lot from Lakeside Drive (Valle Vista). Entries will be lined up according to their arrival.

Arrival time is no earlier than 3 p.m. Entries will not be allowed in the parade staging area before 3 p.m. on the day of the parade.

Prizes will be awarded to first-, second- and third-place winners; with first place receiving $1,000, second place receiving $700 and $300 given to third place.

Parade sponsors include Athens Screen Printing, Atmos Energy, Kevin Lilly's McDonald's and Republic Services.

Of course, with the holidays comes decorations on the square, lunch with Santa, Christmas decorating contest and the Athens Christmas Parade. Lunch with Santa is set for noon on the downtown square. For $6, guests will receive photos with Santa, hot dogs, chips, cookies and drinks.

Holiday on the Square events on Dec. 8 will include the Holiday Market, with arts and crafts for children, face-painting and balloon artists. Festivities are set for noon to 6. The Holiday Market is scheduled to begin at 1

The tree-lighting ceremony is planned for 6:30.
