Hundreds of runners, walkers and spectators will gather on Thanksgiving Day for the Cain Center’s 11th Annual Turkey Trot.

Last year, nearly 200 runners participated in the event, and organizers are hoping to meet and exceed that number this year.

The Turkey Trot is a 5K (3.1 mile) run that begins on the grounds of the Cain Center, winds up Robbins Road and back down to the center’s entrance.

There’s also a 1 mile fun run that has become a popular attraction for families.

Registration on the day of the trot is $25. Registration fees cover a long sleeve T-shirt, goodie bag, fruit, drinks and a chance to win door prizes. The prizes included smoked turkeys from Danny’s Smokehouse, rounds of golf, three-day resort packages and gift certificates.

A dog can be registered to participate for a $10 fee, which includes a Turkey Trot bandana.

The Turkey Trot will begin at 8 a.m. Runners are encouraged to arrive early for registration and rules.
