Citizens who wish to comment on the proposed Henderson County budget will get their chance at the Commissioners Court meeting, 9 a.m. Tuesday at the Courthouse Annex.
A public hearing is set for 9:05 a.m. on the proposed $32,714,248 package. General Funds expenditures and projected revenues balance at $24,703,718, while Road and Bridge expenditures and revenues are $5,100,083. The agenda also includes a vote on the budget at 9:30 a.m.
After the budget vote Commissioners will consider the tax rate for 2013. The proposed rate is equal to the one adopted in 2011. The court will actually vote on three rates. One is for the general fund, another is for flood control and the third covers road and bridge.
The median property tax in Henderson County, Texas is $1,056 per year for a home valued at $86,400. Henderson County collects, on average, 1.22 percent of a property's estimated fair market value as property tax.
Two other public hearings that annually appear at budget time are on the Tuesday agenda. At 9:40 a.m. a hearing is set for the County Clerk’s Preservation and Restoration Records plan. At 9:45 a.m. a similar hearing will be held for the District Clerk’s Office.
According to the Texas Association of Counties, County Clerk Gwen Moffeit is the custodian of a variety of important public records, such as deeds and other instruments and birth and death certificates. The District Clerk Jean Godwin keeps a variety of court records.
The Commissioners will also look at a change that will affect the November election. Precinct CC in Coffee City is requesting that the box be relocated from the City Hall to the newly opened Convention Center.
