The definition of a hero is “a person who has heroic qualities or has performed a heroic act and is regarded as a model.”

Stewart Regional Blood Center is calling on all East Texans to be a holiday hero and donate blood in the weeks leading up to Christmas and New Year’s.

Two community blood drives are scheduled for this weekend:

• Sunday, Dec. 17 — Living for the Brand Church, in side parking lot, 902 NE Loop 7 Athens, 7 a.m. to 1 p.m.; and

• Monday, Dec. 18 — East Texas Medical Center, 2000 S. Palestine, Athens, 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.

With increased traveling and the likelihood for accidents, the need for blood escalates during the holidays. However, the blood supply can remain sufficient if the community responds to the call of need.

To set up a blood drive or request an educational speaker for your place of business call Ken Mitchell at 903-535-5457.
