A call to the Athens Police Department in the early hours of the morning resulted in an arrest for an auto theft on Thursday.
William Gene Baker, 48, was booked into the Henderson County Jail for unlawful use of a motor vehicle. He remained in custody on Thursday afternoon after his bond was set at $25,000.
According to police reports, the dispatcher on duty at APD received a call at 1:35 a.m. from the assistant manager of the business located at 1405 E. Tyler St. concerning a suspicious person in a U-Haul truck at a former Valero station. U-Haul trucks are rented at the location.
Officers responded to the location, and found Baker on the property. Officer Garrett Stewart arrested Baker at the scene. Baker was transported to the Henderson County Jail for booking.
Sgt. Jason McEntire, Officer Dustin Cook and Officer Dana Dykes were also assisted in the cause.
