The Athens Police Department was working two robberies Monday, reported since Saturday.

In each case, the thief displayed a pistol, and took an undisclosed amount of cash.

Because the subject used a handgun in each incident, the cases are being classified as aggravated robbery. No one was injured in either hold-up.

APD Lt. Michael Davis said the first robbery was reported at about 4:08 a.m. Saturday at the Donut Supreme at 1414 E. Tyler St. In that incident, a man wearing a black jacket demanded the money, and headed southwest.

APD dispatched Sgt. Jason McEntire, Officer Chad Walker, Officer Dana Dykes, Det. Adam Parkins and Asstant Chief of Police Rodney Williams to the location. Officers searched the area, but failed to locate the subject.

Early Monday, a lone gunman robbed the Shell station on East Tyler Street. APD received a call at 1:52 a.m. reporting that the man displayed a hand gun, and fled with the cash.

Davis said that although the robberies had similarities, police have not yet determined whether or not  they were the work of the same person. The Criminal Investigations Division is working both cases.
