Soccer signups held at Hibbett Sports

Youth soccer signups are being held through Feb. 17 at Hibbett Sports.

Registration is set for Saturday's from 10-4 p.m. and Sunday's from noon to 4 p.m.

The cost is $65 for new players and $55 for returning players.

ATBA signups held at Coleman Park

The 2013 season for the Athens Teen Baseball Association are currently taking signups on Saturday’s at Coleman Park.

The signups are being held from 9 a.m. to noon.

Dads who would like to coach can get information during signups.

The cost is $85 for the first player, $75 for a second player in the same family and $50 each for three or more kids in the same family.

The remaining signup days are this Saturday and Saturday the 23rd at Coleman Park.

There will be a coaches meeting on Sunday, Feb. 17, at 5 p.m. at the Pinnacle wing (the part of the old high school next to the old high school gym).

Softball signups held this Saturday

Softball sign ups for Henderson County Girls Softball Association are being held through March 1.

You can sign up at Kerry Harris Satellite located on 103 Lacosta Street Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Athens powerlifting finishes fifth

PALESTINE — The Athens boys powerlifting team finished fifth at the Westwood meet on Feb. 7.

Athens Jose and Ricardo Rodriguez placed first and second in the 123-pound weight class.

Jose had a total weight of 950 pounds, which was a personal best.

Ricardo had a total weight of 735-pounds.

Alberto Martinez placed fifth in the 198 pound class during the event with a total on 1,040 pounds.

Tyler Trussell placed sixth in the 242 pound weight class with a total of 1,085 pounds lifted.

Brian Gutierrez placed sixth in the 275 pound weight class with a total of 1,180 pounds lifted.

John Arellano placed second in the Super Heavyweight class with a total of 1,360 pounds.

The following boy’s also competed for Athens: Osbablo Juarez in the 148 pound class, LaDarius Jordan in the 165 pound  class, Barrett Senycki in the 198 pound class, Misael Pereida in the   220 pound class, and Chad Walker in the 275 pound  weight class.

Athens has it’s next meet this Saturday, February 16th at Chapel Hill.

Cardinal Luncheon held this Monday

The Cardinal Pride Luncheon is taking its act on the road.

The luncheon, which gives fans an opportunity to visit with and get to know Trinity Valley Community College coaches and athletes, is scheduled Monday at Ole West Steak House. The meal will begin at noon and the program at 12:30 p.m.

The cost of the meal is $9. The public is invited to attend.
