Man dies in Highway 19 collision

Traffic snarled for hours

A wreck on State Highway 19 south took the life of one area man, and sent another driver to the hospital.

Texas Highway Patrol Senior Trooper James Martin said Mickie Lynn O’Neal, 43, of Palestine, was driving a black 2008 Cadillac Escalade north on SH 19. Joe Michael McEvoy, Jr., 39, of Chandler, was driving his 1995 Dodge Dakota pickup in the southbound lane, according to Martin.

He said O’Neal was transported to East Texas Medical Center, Athens. McEvoy was killed in the accident, according to Martin.

Martin said McEvoy’s vehicle traveled into the northbound lane.

“The front left of the truck hit the front left of the Cadillac,” he said.
