The Henderson County Performing Arts Center in association with Weinstein Law Firm and Genesis Home Care & Hospice Care announces the opening of The Best Christmas Pageant Ever by Barbara Robinson at 7:30 p.m. on Dec. 4, 10, 11, 12. Saturday and Sunday matinees will be at 2 p.m. on Dec. 5, 6, 12.
The play will be presented on the Whataburger Stage at the theatre complex on Gibson Road in Athens. Ticket price is $15 for adults and $10 for students and children.
The Best Christmas Pageant Ever tells the story of the Herdmans, who were the worst kids in town. They bite, kick, pinch, curse and smoke cigars. When the Herdman kids get wind that there are some pretty tasty snacks at Sunday school, the entire clan decides that volunteering for the annual Christmas Pageant might just be worth their while.
Just when you thought it was safe to go to church, the Herdman family invades, and tries to turn the traditional, sweet and beloved Christmas Pageant into ”The Revenge at Bethelem,” complete with machine guns and a plot to assassinate King Herod.
This hilarious and endearing holiday play is for the whole family and is presented with an entirely school –age cast.
The show demonstrates important lessons of tolerance and patience, and that things and people might not be just exactly as they appear.
The Best Christmas Pageant is made up of a cast of 53 children ages 4 to 14 who are part of the Youth Excellence on Stage (YES) Company of the theater. This is the 17th season that the YES Company has performed in the Christmas production.
Part of the theatre’s Holiday tradition is its annual “Goodies” Auction that is held at the intermission of each performance.
This is more than a bake sale, as donated baked goods are auctioned off as part of the YES! Company’s fundraising effort.
More than $115,000 has been raised in the past 16 auctions.
This is also the last chance to take advantage of great savings on 2010 season tickets through the theatre’s second phase of its “early bird special.”
You can contact the theatre for details on how you can buy 2010 tickets for as low as $7 per show. That is 50 percent off the box office price.
Tickets for The Best Christmas Pageant Ever may be purchased by calling the theatre’s box office at (903) 675-3908 extension 101, or by going online at www.hcpac.org.
