Here is the East Texas Fishing Report for the week of April 29:
Athens — Water level is 2.37 feet low and stained. Water temp in the upper 60s, low 70s.
Bobby Spearman says crappie fishing has been good on live shiners and jigs in 5-12 feet of water along grass lines and on points. Lots of black crappie still full of eggs.
Bass fishing has been good to 11 pounds on Carolina rigs, jigs and crankbaits fished on structure in 18-20 feet. -

Athens High School will be hosting a Region III, 3A softball playoff series this weekend at Peg Cain Field.

The Athens Hornets lost their final three games of the regular season but pulled out the District 15-3A title following a 1-0 loss to Brownsboro Friday night.

The Eustace Lady Bulldogs fought hard but ran into a tough Edgewood Lady Bulldogs softball team as they were ousted, 9-2, in the bi-district round of the Region 2-AA playoffs Monday night.
