CR Bobcats release 2014 football schedule

CROSS ROADS — A 3-7 season under first year coach Jim Bradford has the Cross Roads Bobcats looking for more wins in 2014.

Following the realignment period earlier this year, the Bobcats put together a schedule that brings only three teams back from last year’s schedule.

The Bobcats are in District 11-2A play with Carlisle, Cayuga, Kerens, Grapeland and Alto.

Bradford’s squad welcomes Dawson — who they beat 43-16 — to Cross Roads in the second game of the year on Sept. 5.

They also face Cayuga and Kerens in back-to-back weeks in district play.

The Bobcats lost to Cayuga, 67-14, while the Kerens Bobcats beat Cross Roads, 55-26.

Cross Roads will open the season on Aug. 29 against the Moody Bearcats in Moody.

Moody finished the 2013 season with a record of 2-8, as both wins came in district play.

On Sept. 12, the Bobcats will travel to Overton for a 7:30 p.m. kickoff.

Overton finished the 2013 season with a record of 3-7 last year.

They will observe their open week the following week before hosting Mt. Enterprise for homecoming on Sept. 26.

While most teams will be taking Oct. 3 off across the state, the Bobcats will be in action as they travel to the Beckville Bearcats.

Beckville went 7-3 last year as the second place team in district.

Three of the five teams in district play had winning records in 2014, which means Cross Roads will have a tough road to reach a playoff spot.

They open district play Oct. 10 against the Carlisle Indians at home.

The rematch with the Wildcats happens on Oct. 17 at Cayuga before they have a two-game homestand.

They will face Kerens on Oct. 24 at 7:30 p.m. They will then have senior night on Halloween night as Grapeland comes to town.

The Bobcats wrap up the regular season on Nov. 7 at Alto, which finished the 2013 season with a 9-4 record.

Alto lost to Bosqueville, 42-41, in the regional round last year.
