ATHENS — A pair of Trinity Valley Community College football players have earned Player of the Week honors in the Southwest Junior College Football Conference.

Sophomore running back Josh Johnson was named Offensive Player of the Week and sophomore kicker Jaimie Salazar was named Special Teams Player of the Week following TVCC’s season-opening 51-16 win last Saturday over Independence (Kan.).

Johnson ran for three touchdowns — from distances of three, two and one yard. His first scoring play of the season, however, came on an 18-yard halfback pass for a touchdown to open the scoring last Saturday.

Salazar scored 12 of the Cardinals’ points himself, including field goals of 42, 38 and 26 yards.
