HIGH SCHOOL BASKETBALL: Eustace second at E.L. Kirk tourney

EUSTACE — The Malakoff Tigers used a big third quarter to defeat the Eustace Bulldogs and win first place in the inaugural E.L. Kirk Memorial Tournament held last Thursday, Friday and Saturday at Eustace High School.

Malakoff won the tournament championship with a 66-52 win over the host Bulldogs. Eustace trailed, 29-28, at halftime before Malakoff outscored the Bulldogs, 28-14, in the third quarter to run away with the game.

John Bradburn led Eustace with 23 points. Kyle Wood added eight, Steven Stine had six, Forrest Lane and Chris Farnsworth had five, Chance Scott had three and Jalen Seahorn had two.

Damontes Dowell led Malakoff with 21 points. Keonte Ross finished with 17 for the Tigers.

Head coach Chad Martinez’s Bulldogs will travel to Rice on Tuesday and then participate in the Fruitvale Tournament beginning Thursday.
