Thomison gets nod in Brownsboro

Former Bear quarterback pegged as next head football coach, athletic director

BROWNSBORO — If his career path was put in written form, Ty Thomison admits he couldn’t have penned a better story.

Thomison, a 1991 Brownsboro graduate and longtime assistant coach, was hired Monday night as the district’s next head football coach and athletic director.

“This is the way I would have written my story if I could have written it out,” Thomison said Tuesday. “This is where I want to be, and I could not be happier.”

Thomison was approved by the Brownsboro board of trustees by a 7-0 vote, according to Superintendent Elton Caldwell. Thomison received a two-year contract and had been the favorite to get the job after it came open a month ago.

“We’re tickled to death to have Ty,” Caldwell said.

Thomison, a 15-year assistant at Brownsboro, currently serves as head baseball coach. He replaces John Settle, who recently left Brownsboro after seven years to accept the head football coach/athletic director position at Sunnyvale.

The Bears, 6-5 last football season, have been to the playoffs four of the past five seasons. During that span, they also won two district championships.

Thomison, a former Brownsboro student-athlete himself, says he wants to build on that success and instill a high sense of school pride among those who participate in the athletic program.

“When I was here in the ’80s and early ’90s, there was a lot of Bear pride,” said Thomison, who played under Coach Tom Talley. “When these kids put on that Bear uniform, it’s going to be a special thing.”
