CORSICANA — Trinity Valley sophomore running back Josh Johnson has been named the Southwest Junior College Football Conference’s Most Valuable Player, according to information released Sunday following the conference championship game.

Johnson, who had rushed for 1,301 yards and 16 touchdowns heading into Sunday’s game, ran for 253 yards in TVCC’s 59-38 win over Blinn in one of last week’s conference semifinals.

Johnson, who missed one game earlier this season due to what the college termed “academic issues,” was one of two Cardinals to earn first-team honors. Punter Brad Dunivant was also named to the first team.

Second-team offensive picks for TVCC were sophomore wide receiver Jeremiah Williams, sophomore lineman Colton Collins and sophomore lineman Wayne Harris. Defensive second-team picks were sophomore end Austin Luke, sophomore linebacker Everett Daniels and freshman deep snapper Kevin Garza.

Other superlative picks in the conference were Cisco’s Jacob Morgan, who was named Offensive MVP and Blinn’s Princeton Jackson, who was named Defensive MVP.

Navarro’s Nick Bobeck was named Coach of the Year after winning the conference with Sunday’s 52-27 win over Trinity Valley. Navarro had played, but lost, in the previous two conference title games.
