GIRLS SELECT SOCCER: One memorable trip

AHS soccer player Earnest helps select team finish in fourth place at U.S. Club soccer event

ATHENS — Athens Lady Hornets sophomore Cori Earnest has had a summer to remember as she took part in a select soccer tournament in Chicago, IL.

Earnest helped the Tyler Azzurri Juventus ‘98 soccer team to a fourth place finish in the U.S. Club Soccer National Cup XII Midwest Regional at the Libertyville Soccer Complex June 28-July 1.

The 15U Tyler team defeated a team from Illinois 2-0 in their opening round match.

They lost to a team from Minnesota, 3-0 in their second game of the tournament.

In their final game of the tournament they tied a team from Illinois 0-0.

Earnest is a varsity sweeper and defender for the Lady Hornets.

was named a first team all-district selection during her freshman campaign.

She was also named the defender of the year for the soccer team at the Athens High School sports banquet earlier this month.

This was the first trip to a tournament of this level for the only Texas team in the tournament.
