The Trinity Valley Community College Cardinals and Lady Cardinals prevailed in their home openers Tuesday night.
The fourth-ranked Lady Cardinals were a 78-58 winner against the Australian Junior National Team and the 14th-ranked Cardinals scored a 99-60 decision against the Texas Riders.
The Lady improved to 3-0 and the Cardinals to 2-1.
Both teams will be in action on the road Friday and Saturday.
The Lady Cardinals, who have now won 39 straight games, play Arkansas Baptist at 6 p.m. Friday and Eastern Oklahoma at 2 p.m. Saturday in Lufkin. The Cardinals play Texas Wesleyan JV at 6 p.m. Friday and Midland at 4 p.m. Saturday in Corsicana.
LaPoynor 54, Athens 49
LARUE — The Athens Lady Hornets opened the season with a 54-49 loss to the LaPoynor Lady Flyers on Tuesday.
The Lady Hornets, under new head coach Dee Ann Evans, will try to pick up their first win Friday at home against Kaufman. Junior varsity action is set to begin at 5 p.m., with the varsity to follow around 6:15.
LaPoynor returns to action Friday at home against Oakwood. Junior varsity action will begin at 5 p.m., followed by the varsity.
Mabank 46, Quinlan Ford 38
MABANK — Kourtney Holyfield scored 18 points to lead the Mabank Lady Panthers to a 46-38 win over Quinlan Ford on Monday.
Brittney Ramon added seven points for the Lady Panthers.
