AREA SPORTS BRIEFS: Cross Roads beats Oakwood Lady Panthers in three games

CROSS ROADS — The Cross Roads LadyCats beat Oakwood in three games Tuesday night.

Coach Giff Durham’s team won by scores of 25-16, 25-20 and 25-23.

With the win, the LadyCats are now 5-4 on the year. They return to the court Thursday in the Overton tournament.

Brownsboro drops contest to Grace

BROWNSBORO — The Brownsboro Bearettes lost to Grace Community Tuesday night.

In the varsity contest, Grace won in four games by scores of 25-16, 17-25, 25-17 and 25-19.

The varsity team was led by LaDae Luqman with three aces and seven kills, Madison Montgomery with three aces and sixkills, Lexie Houston with seven kills, and Meagan Gailey with six kills.

Devon Carver had 25 assists, while teammate Bailey McDonald had 15 assists.

Grace won the junior varsity contest by scores of 18-25, 25-20 and 25-11.

In the freshman contest, Brownsboro won by scores of 19-25, 25-20 and 25-14.

The Bearettes travel to Alba-Golden Friday with the freshman starting at 4:30 p.m.

Baseball tryouts held this Saturday

CORSICANA — The Cana Tigers 10U select baseball team will be holding tryouts at 10 a.m. this Saturday at Beebe Field in Corsicana. Players cannot turn 11 before April 30, 2014.
