The No. 19-ranked Trinity Valley Community College Cardinals advanced to the winner’s bracket of the Region XIV tournament with a sweep of No. 13-ranked San Jacinto on Friday.
TVCC won by scores of 25-23, 25-21 and 25-23.
With the win, coach Tosha Spain’s team was scheduled to play the winner of the TJC-Wharton contest at 11 a.m. Saturday at Wagstaff Gymnasium.
Sara Cruz led the way for the Lady Cardinals with 14 kills, one ace and 14 digs, teammate Ariana Kaleo had 12 kills, and Ryleigh Thompson had 35 assists, one ace and seven digs.
Kaitlyn McShan had nine kills, one ace, eight digs and one block assist for the Lady Cardinals.
BHS wins opener against WPHS
BROWNSBORO — The Brownsboro Bearettes improved to 1-0 on the young season with a 57-17 win over Wills Point Tuesday night in basketball action.
Leading scorers for the varsity were Sidney Hightower and Victoria Walker with eight points each, Shelbie Bagby, M.J. Alexander, Madison Montgomery, and Lexie Houston with six points each, Tamaria Manning and Devin Warren with five points each, Devin Carver with three points and Reagan Allen and Meosha Deed with two points each.
In junior varsity action, Brownsboro won by a score of 28-9, while the freshman won by a score of 44-10.
Brownsboro will continue their home stand Tuesday night as Bullard comes to town.
The freshmen will begin play at 5 p.m.
