FRIDAY NIGHT FLASHBACK: Eustace wins homecoming over Kemp, 58-15

EUSTACE — The Eustace Bulldogs improved to 3-2 overall and 1-0 in District 7-2A Division I play with a 58-15 win over the Kemp Yellowjackets Friday night during homecoming at the Boneyard.

The Bulldogs rushed for 521 yards on 50 carries with four players rushing for over 100 yards in the game.

The Bulldogs had Jesus Barcenas rush for 123 yards on 11 carries — all in the first half of play — while teammates Keenan Hargest (10-139-2), Lance Rogers (8-103) and Clay Carson (6-110) hit the century mark against the Yellowjackets.

With the loss, coach Greg Anderson's team is now 0-5 on the year and 0-1 in district play.

Barcenas opened the scoring for the Bulldogs with a 24 yard touchdown run with 3:57 remaining in the first quarter. Ryan Brown booted his first of six PAT's good.

In the second quarter, Brown got his name in the touchdown column with a one-yard quarterback sneak  to give the Bulldogs a 15-0 lead. Clay Carson ran the two-point conversion in with 9:24 remaining in the first half.

Kemp cut the lead to 15-8 as Olice Rogers caught a 64-yard touchdown pass from Corey Watkins with 8:27 remaining in the first half. Watkins fooled the Bulldogs defense taking the two-point conversion in on the play.

Hargest answered the Bulldogs touchdown with his first of the game on a five-yard run for the 22-8 lead with 6:57 remaining in the half.

The Bulldogs would take a 30-8 lead into the locker room as Carson barrelled his way 56-yards for the score with 30 seconds remaining in the half.

In the second half, the Bulldogs would score 21 unanswered points as Hargest scored from 38 yards out, Lance Rogers barrelled his way for 28 yards and freshman James East scored from 25-yards out.

Rogers would score his second touchdown of the game with 3:04 remaining in the third quarter on a 23 yard run. Forest Summerhill booted the PAT good for the 51-15 deficit.

Eustace would add one final score on a 30-yard run by Carson with 7:49 remaining in the game.

The Bulldogs finished the game with 529 total yards of offense compared to 282 yards for the Yellowjackets.

Kemp was led by quarterback Corey Watkins who threw for 198 yards on 14-of-25 passes with one interception.

During halftime, Meagan Gunter was named homecoming queen for Eustace High School.
