HIGH SCHOOL VOLLEYBALL: AHS prepares for District 15-3A opener tonight at Mineola

Athens — The Athens Lady Hornets head into the District 15-3A opener Friday night on a two-match losing streak.

They hope to bounce back as they head on the road tonight against the Mineola Lady ‘Jackets in Mineola.

Athens comes into the contest with an 8-11 record following a non-district loss to Rusk Friday night in Rusk.

Ninth grade and junior varsity matches are set to begin at 5 p.m., followed by varsity action.

Coach Liz Ramsey’s Lady Hornets have played well in stretches during this  season and will need consistent play throughout district play.

The Lady Hornets have four seniors on the squad, led by Cari Aguilera, Hannah Feinsod, Krystal Davis and Elizabeth Hilliard.

Following their contest tonight against Mineola, the Lady Hornets will battle the No. 2-ranked team by the Texas Girls Coaches Association poll — the Van Lady Vandals next Tuesday night.

The Lady Hornets will then have a three-match home stand starting with Van, Brownsboro and Mabank.

The remaining varsity roster is Haley Durden, Cori Earnest, Mallary Rummel, Alexandria Gatlin, Bri Grogan, Sarah Red and Hadley Cain.
