BROWNSBORO —
A fumble on the two-yard line in overtime helped the Van Vandals spoil Brownsboro’s home opener Friday night.
The Bears lost a fumble on the two-yard-line on their first offensive possession in overtime, and Van scored on its possession to take a 28-22 win.
The game was the first played at Brownsboro’s renovated Bear Stadium and the first played on the stadium’s new artificial turf.
Van had a chance to win the game during regulation, but the attempt sailed wide with 33 seconds left to send the game into overtime.
Brownsboro quarterback Ryan Owens was 23 of 32 for 249 yards passing and a pair of touchdowns. His 24-yard pass to Deondre Taylor opened the scoring in the first quarter, and Owens later hit Taylor on another touchdown from 13 yards out in the fourth quarter.
Charfus Mayfield added a two-yard touchdown run for the Bears (1-1), and Tero Meron nailed a 32-yard field goal midway through the third quarter.
