EUSTACE —
The Bulldogs got more than a token spanking with a newspaper.
The Grace Community Cougars scored at will from a precision spread offense that had too much speed and too much talent for Eustace.
Final score was 48-7.
Not that the Bulldogs didn’t have their moments. They controlled the ball most of the game with their ground attack. But ball control was of little use on a night like this when the Cougars were scoring 34 first-half points on 18 snaps from center. That’s like two points every time the center snaps the ball.
By contrast, Eustace had 42 first-half snaps and no points to show for it. But it did have 140 yards rushing at the half.
On those 18 plays, Grace had touchdown passes of 48, 63 and 82 yards while blistering the Eustace secondary. Quarterback Taylor Stanley looked like a D-1 college quarterback, throwing touchdown passes to Bradley White, Scott Snyder and Craig Schambachl respectively.
Cameron Bhausen carried the ball six times in the first half for 119 of his 139 overall yards on just eight carries.
Meanwhile, the Bulldogs worked like thunder, getting 80 yards from fullback Jacob Petillo and 81 yards from junior running back Justin Bersterman, including a 36 yard run.
Sophomore Tyler Folsom had a 25-yard run in the game.
Stanley’s first pass of the game covered 48 yards to White for a touchdown with 9:44 left in the first. Just to prove it wasn’t a fluke, he hit Snyder on a 63-yard scoring pass with still 4:10 left in the first.
Before the quarter could end, Bhausen scored on three-yard run with 10.6 seconds to go — and the rout was on.
Bhausen scored again on an 18-yard pass less than halfway through the second period to make it 27-0 with 7:23 still left in the half.
Eustace’s only touchdown came after it dropped 40 points behind when Bersterman scored from 34 yards away with 11:06 left.
Eustace had 18 first downs to the Cougars’ 13. Eustace had 195 yards rushing to the Cougars’ 176 yards.
