GRAND SALINE —
The Athens Lady Hornets are going to be glad to get home Friday.
The Lady Hornets traveled to Grand Saline Tuesday and fell in four games. After winning the first game, 25-17, they lost the next three by scores of 25-14; 25-17; and 25-5.
“We played great the first game, but ultimately ended up beating ourselves,” Athens Head Coach Timmi Blackshear said. “We have the skills and talent, but our biggest weakness is getting down on ourselves. The girls just have to realize that we are aiming for progress rather than perfection and that mistakes are going to happen.
“We have to play forward and learn from them rather than dwell on them.”
Kayla Stanley had 20 assists and one ace, dig and kill against Grand Saline. McKenzie Parrish had an ace and three digs; Kelly Spears had 12 kills and one dig; Daisy Martinez had four kills, an ace and a block; Haley Maxfield had six digs; and Cari Aguilera had five blocks and four kills.
Blackshear said the Lady Hornets will be glad to be home Friday against Sulphur Springs.
“The girls seem to perform well at home,” Blackshear said.
