AREA SPORTS BRIEFS: Mabank Panthers fight hard but lose to Tigers, 41-36

WILLS POINT — The Mabank Panthers ran 98 plays against the Wills Point Tigers Friday night but fell just short of picking up their first win of the season.

Coach Jared Wingfield's Panthers are now 0-2 on the season.

Quarterback Cody Thompson had a good night at quarterback throwing two touchdowns and rushing for two more scores.

Wingfield said Dalton Reeder had a touchdown catch, Ty Winklevoss had a touchdown catch and Clay Gaddis rushed for a touchdown.

Mabank kicker Pedro Valdez was four-for-four on extra points and Colt Conway had a two-point conversion.

ACP falls to Parkview Christian 57-12

WACO — Athens Christian Prep dropped to 0-2 on the season with a 57-12 loss at Parkview Saturday morning.

The Storm will have it’s first home game of the season Saturday morning at 10 a.m. against Waco Mt. Calm at Trinidad’s Trojan Field.

Eustace runs strong at Tyler Lee Classic

TYLER — The Eustace cross country teams competed in Tyler last Saturday at the Tyler Lee Classic.

The varsity girls placed second in the 3A and under division out of 18 teams and 145 total individuals. They were lead by freshman Skye Burns who placed 13th and ran a 13:36, next was Shelby White who placed 14th and ran a 13:40, Breanna Ragan placed 16th and ran a 13:45, Noa Taylor placed 24th and Chloe Moore placed 31st.

The varsity guys ran two separate teams on varsity and placed second and seventh out of 18 teams and 153 individuals in the 3A and under division. The first varsity team was lead by junior Mark Zimmerer who was the meet champion and lead the field with a 16:59, next was Hunter Rose and Preston Schwartz who placed ninth and 12th, Brandon Richardson was 32nd, and Alec Marable placed 48th. The second varsity team was lead by Ayden Reed who placed 40th, then Cade Yates who placed 54th, Zane Arambula placed 55th, Gabe Purselley placed 57th, and Andrew Page placed 60th.

The JV girls placed fifth out of 19 teams and 181 individuals in the 1A-5A division. They were lead by Chanda Westbrook who placed sixth and ran a 13:58, next was Alyssa Shaddox who placed 14th, Harley Kile placed 16th, Monica Rojas placed 46th, and Payton Schwartz placed 57th.
