HIGH SCHOOL POWERLIFTING: 7 local powerlifters advance to state meet in Corpus Christi

Athens — Brownsboro’s Ashley Hernandez and Mabank’s Deana Lane qualified for the Class 3A state meet on March 15 with top finishes at the Class 3A, Division II regional championships on Saturday.

Hernandez finished in fourth place with a state qualifying total of 735 pounds in the 148-pound weight class. Lane finished second in the 220-pound weight class with a total lift of 850 pounds.

For Brownsboro, Genesis Loredo was sixth in the 97-pound weight class with a total lift of 300 pounds, while Rachel Green was seventh in the 114-pound weight class with a total of 550 pounds.

Rachel Grubbs was seventh in the 181-pound weight class with a total lift of 640 pounds. Kayla Honea, Emily Millender, Leandra Bevens and Savanna Wilson also lifted in the meet.

For Mabank, Caley Starkes finished third in the 97-pound weight class with a total lift of 375 pounds. Maddie Marlor was fifth in the 97-pound weight class with a total lift of 340 pounds.

Kelsey Clark was third for Mabank in the 105-pound weight class with a total lift of 550 pounds, while Gena Stotts was fifth in the 105-pound weight class with a total lift of 540 pounds.

Erin Reeder finished ninth in the 114-pound weight class with a total lift of 510 pounds, while Michaela Rowan was ninth in the 132-pound weight class with a total lift of 575 pounds.

Shelby Haley finished sixth in the 148-pound weight class with a total lift of 700 pounds, while Lucy Reveles also competed in the meet.

The Lady Panthers finished fifth in the team standings.

The Kemp LadyJackets, Eustace LadyDogs and Malakoff Lady Tigers had powerlifters advance to the Class 2A state meet following the Region III girls regionals last week at White Oak high school.

For Kemp, Kayla Hale, Kalee Anderson and Brianna Pavatt advanced, while Sunni Goodell is the lone representative for the LadyDogs. Malakoff’s Deondra Dowell will join them at the state meet – which will be held in Corpus Christi on March 15.

Goodell finished third in the 220-pound weight class with a total weight of 860 pounds. She qualified based on the state qualifying total.

Anderson finished as the runner-up in the 123-pound weight class with a total lift of 650 pounds, while Hale finished with a state qualifying total of 630 pounds in third place in the 105 pound weight class.

Dowell won the 181-pound weight class with a total weight of 780 pounds. She lifted 305 pounds in the squat, 150 pounds in the bench press and 325 pounds in the deadlift.

For Kemp, Dezie Dowd finished fourth in the 114-pound weight class with a total of 560 pounds, while Kelsey Gage was seventh in the 123-pound weight class with a total of 570 pounds. Kinsey Rogers was 10th in the 132-pound weight class with a total of 620 pounds. Julissa Lopez was fourth in the 220+ pound weight class with a total of 800 pounds.

For Eustace, Samantha Crocker was ninth in the 114-pound weight class with a total of 505 pounds.

For Malakoff, Kelsey Reynolds was eighth in the 220-pound weight class with a total lift of 725 pounds.
