Andy Tanner, a football player with local ties, has signed a three-year contract with the NFL Super Bowl champion New Orleans Saints.
Tanner is the son of Steve and Katie Tanner and the grandson of John Tanner of Athens.
Tanner, a rookie from Division II Midwestern State, participated in the Saints’ rookie minicamp on a tryout basis last weekend.
The 6-0, 183-pound Rockwall native played in 38 collegiate games, catching 120 passes for 1,716 yards and 20 touchdowns. He was named first-team All-Lone Star Conference as a senior, leading the Mustangs with 75 receptions for 1,186 yards and 12 touchdowns.
Tanner ranks first all-time at MSU in TD receptions (20), second in total receptions (120) and third in receiving yards with 1,716.
