HIGH SCHOOL GOLF: BHS junior Bragdon heading to state tournament this weekend

BROWNSBORO — Brownsboro junior golfer Jared Bragdon is headed to the Class 3A golf state championship in Austin this weekend.

Bragdon shot a personal best at the regional tournament in Pottsboro with a total of 148 to qualify him for the tournament as a medalist.

Bragdon shot a 76 in the opening round of the tournament and followed that up with a personal best 72 in the final round.

He finished third in the region to qualify for a trip to the state tournament.

He will represent Brownsboro High School at the state golf tournament, May 2-3, at Jimmy Clay golf course in Austin.

“It's pretty great,” Bragdon said. “It's a goal I set and it's pretty nice to reach that goal.”

Bragdon said this is his first trip to the state tournament and he took part in a practice round today at the golf course.

Based on last year’s scores at the same location, Bragdon will need to shoot at least a 152 to place in the top-10 at state.

Bragdon said he would like to throw out two good scores at state.

His goal is a top 10 finish in his first trip to the tournament.

His regional score of 148 would have placed him fifth in last year’s state tournament with the top score being 145.
