10/18/13 East Texas Fishing Report

Athens — Here is the East Texas Fishing Report for the week of October 17:

ATHENS — Water level is 4.03 feet low and fairly clear. Water temp in the mid-70s

Max Logan at Lake Athens Marina says bass fishing has been good on topwaters early, then switching to crank baits in 10-15 feet.

Crappie fishing has been good on shiners soaked around brush piles in 8-10 feet of water. Bream are excellent on crickets fished around boat docks and brushpiles. No report on catfish.

CEDAR CREEK — Water level is 6.63 feet low and stained. Water temp in the mid-70s.

Fishing guide Jason Barber says catfish are still hanging deep, hitting cut shad in 16-25 feet on humps.

Crappie are good in 12 feet of water around brush piles.

White bass and hybrids hitting slabs on points and humps in 12-20 feet. Black bass are good on cranks, spinnerbaits and plastics fished around boat docks.

PALESTINE — Water level is 1.50 feet low and fairly clear. Water temp in the mid-70s.

Fishing guide Ricky Vandergriff says bass fishing has been good to seven pounds on Shimmy Shakers and jigs fished around boat docks in 3-6 feet.

Also some fish taking Carolina rigs dragged on roadbeds and points in 10-15 feet.

Crappie are slow. Catfish are good on punch bait and night crawlers fished around baited holes in 13-16 feet.

Jugs are giving up some big blues and flatheads to 60 pounds using live perch. White bass are slow.

FORK — Water level is 5.98 feet low and stained. Water temp the low 70s.

Fishing guide Gary Paris says bass fishing has been good to 10 pounds on lipless cranks, Texas rigs and spinnerbaits fished around shallow grass.

In 10-15 feet of water try deep diving cranks and Stanley football jigs on ridges.

Crappie fishing has been good on brush piles in 15 feet of water.

Bridge fishing is improving. Catfish are taking punch bait in 20 feet of water.

NACOGDOCHES — Water level is 2.93 feet low and clear. Water temp in the mid-70s.

Bass are good to four pounds on soft jerk baits, wacky worms, topwaters and swim baits worked around scattered hydrilla beds in 4-10 feet of water.

Crappie are scattered around brush piles, hitting shiners and jigs.

SAM RAYBURN — Water level is 6.69 feet low and clear. Water temp in the low 70s.

Ann Wilson at Ann's Tackle says bass fishing has been of and on.

 Best bite has been on shad pattern Strike Pro wake baits and topwaters fished over shallow grass beds in the mouths of major and secondary creeks.

Wilson says crappie anglers are reporting a few limits around brush piles in 15 feet of water, mainly on minnows.

TOLEDO BEND — Water level is 4.46 feet low and fairly clear. Water temp in the mid-70s.

Charlie Shively at Bill's Landing says catfishing has been hit and miss on trotline and stump hooks. Rod and reelers plucking good numbers of channel cat off the edges of the river in 10-14 feet.

Crappie are fair on the edges of the river in 12-18 feet of water.

Bass are fair on Texas rig brush hogs, topwaters and small cranks fished around scattered vegetation in shallow water.

Down south some good fish reported on cranks and Texas rigs worked along deeper outside grass edges.

PINKSTON — Water level about four feet low and fairly clear. Water temp in the low 70s.

Bass anglers reporting some solid fish on soft jerk baits, swim baits and light Texas rigs fished along outside grass edges in 10-12 feet of water.

A few fish also hitting on top on cloudy days.

Crappie are hit and miss around deep brush.

NACONICHE — Water level is about a foot low and clear. Water temp in the low 70s.

Not much traffic out. A few good reports coming on swim jigs, light Texas rigs and spinnerbaits fished around flooded timber and brush.

Grass fish are scattered. No report on crappie.
