HIGH SCHOOL BASEBALL: BHS finishes 2-0 at Kemp tournament

KEMP — Ryan Covington collected three hits, sparking the Brownsboro Bears to a 3-0 victory in seven innings over Ferris on Friday at the Kemp Tournament.

He singled in the first, fourth, and sixth innings.

Ferris had no answer for Shelby Rogers, who kept runners off the base paths in his appearance. Rogers held Ferris hitless over five innings, allowing no earned runs, walked three and stricking out seven.

Tyler Thomison got it done on the mound on the way to a win. He pitched two shutout innings. He struck out one, walked four and surrendered three hits.

The Brownsboro Bears didn't relinquish the lead after scoring one run in the first inning when they scored on an error.

BHS got one-run rallies in the second and fourth innings.

In their game on Saturday, BHS picked up a 7-1 win over Chapel Hill.

The game was decided quickly as Brownsboro scored five runs in the first three innings.

An RBI-triple by Chris Davis and a groundout by Aaron Sherman during the first inning gave them the early lead.

In the second, BHS capitalized on an error, a wild pitch, and an RBI-single by Raul Gutierrez.

Davis was solid at the plate for Brownsboro. Davis went 2-for-4, with an RBI and one run scored.

Gutierrez had nine strikeouts through six innings of work. He allowed only two hits in their win.

BHS travels to Pittsburg Friday afternoon.
